He mainly painted landscapes and was akin to Impressionism. In the 1920s, he became interested in book graphics and created illustrations for the French translation of N.V. Gogol's 'Viy,' translated by his daughter, the artist Elena Vivier-Kousnetzoff. His unpublished illustrations for Pushkin's 'The Little Mermaid' and 'The Tale of Tsar Saltan' and others have also been preserved.
