signed and dated ‘DM 65’ (lower left) oil on canvas 38 x 45 cm 1965 Dietrich Mannel, a German painter influenced by Paul Klee and Kandinsky, was a student of the painter Paul Franck in Belgium from 1963 to 1965. He was also the author of numerous collages close to the situationist spirit and of drawings often of surrealist spirit. In his paintings, he makes our gaze travel on the surface, but also in depth, in a universe where the physical laws escape us, close to those of bodies immersed in fluids and thus, he transports us in interstices between figuration and abstraction
