The illustrations by artist Natali Paren (born Chelpanova, 1897-1958) for "Baba-Yaga" significantly differ from the famous works of D. Kardovsky and I. Bilibin. Paren's concise style best corresponds to the aesthetics of Soviet illustration, particularly the works of V. Lebedev. In terms of style, geometric forms, cubist motifs, and the manipulation of cut-out and glued flat elements directly derive from Russian avant-garde, especially the works of K. Malevich.
