[23] p.: ill.; 32.5x28.5 cm. In the publisher's illustrated cover. Chromolithograph illustrations. In very good condition. Slight oxidation of the paper at the edges. The first edition of the well-known fairy tale in the literary adaptation by Nadezhda Teffi. The illustrations by artist Natalia Parain (née Chelpanova, 1897-1958) for "Baba Yaga" radically differ from the well-known works of D. Kardovsky and I. Bilibin. Parain‘s laconic style best relates to the aesthetics of Soviet illustration, particularly the works of V. Lebedev. Stylistically, the geometric shapes, cubist motifs, and the use of cutting and gluing of flat elements are directly derived from the Russian avant-garde, especially the works of K. Malevich.
