Lotto 64

Mi-épaule, étiquette tachée, capsule abimée Mid-shoulder, Stained Label, Damaged Capsule Label Artist: ROBERTO MATTA (1912-2002) Of Chilean origin, Roberto Matta was first an architect and collaborator of Le Corbusier, then he joined the Surrealist group in 1935. Abandoning dreamlike introspection in order to denounce the violence and mechanization of our time, Matta turned to the representation of a disturbing world populated by half-robots, half- marionettes. Tortured and suffering, the vine he designed for the label of Mouton Rothschild 1962 nevertheless hints at the promise of fruit. Witness the caption chosen by the painter: «Its tender velvetiness seduces the most rebellious...». Provenance: Private wine cellar from a Villa in the South of France (preserved in the cellar with regulated hydrometry and temperature)
