signed ‘Garau’ (lower right) oil on canvas 65 x 54 cm Born in Bolzano, Garau was trained at the Accademia di Brera in Milan, where he studied with Francesco Messina and Achille Funi. He was the youngest member of M.A.C., and a very close friend of Atanasio Soldati. Garau’s work was included in the important exhibition, ‘Arte Astratta in Italia’, organised by the Art Club in the Galleria di Roma in 1948. The Galleria Salto, which was closely associated with the M.A.C., gave him his first one - man show in 1949. In 1952 he had one-man exhibitions at the Milanese Galleria Bergamini, the Galleria Bianchi in Gallarate.
