During the Second World War he was a front-line photographer for the Russian newspaper “Izvestia”. He took pictures on many fronts and was a photographer of such historic events as the Parade on the Red Square on November 7, 1941, the Yalta and Potsdam Conferences, the Victory Parade in Moscow on June 24, 1945.
