The publication was made by the Kiev archaeographic Commission and was being published from 1859 to 1911. 34 volumes were published in total. It contains rich factual material on the history of Ukraine, which has not lost its scientific importance up to nowadays. The main source for the publication was the Kiev Central archive, as well as documents got by the Kiev Commission from individuals, monasteries and various institutions. The third part contains material on the struggle of the Ukrainian Cossacks against the oppression of the Polish gentry in 1500-1768’s.
