Charles Gravier de VERGENNES (1719-1787) Letter signed in his capacity as Minister of Foreign Affairs, addressed to Mr "de Bonne".
Versailles, 27 January 1783. 1/2 p. in-4, some marks. A key figure in the reign of Louis VI, the Count of Vergennes was one of France's great foreign ministers: The Treaty of Paris at the end of the American War of Independence (September 1783) proved to be a great diplomatic success for him. He later became France's principal minister, although without the title, and proved his efficiency in a variety of fields. He died in office shortly before the Revolution.
