On the reverse, in the lower part, in another handwriting, probably secretarially, a note of receipt : "received on February 29 (?)." Traces of being folded four times, foxing stains. In the upper right-hand corner of the page with the text, the number "9" written by hand, in the upper right-hand corner of the turnover, also by hand, is "No. 385". Tsarevich Alexey Petrovich (Alexey Petrovich Romanov; 1690-1718) - the heir to the Russian throne, the eldest son of Peter I and his first wife Evdokia Lopukhina. In 1700 Peter the Great enters the war against Sweden, and after the victory over the Swedes in 1709 at Poltava sends an expeditionary force under the command of Alexander Menshikov to Western Pomerania. The crown prince Alexey Petrovich, heir to the throne was engaged in supplying the army of A.D. Menshikov. The rate of the crown prince became the city of Thorn ( Torun ) from where the letters presented at the auction come from. In 1711-1712, Russian troops successfully besieged Szczecin, Kohlberg ( Kołobrzeg ) and landed on the island of Rügen. The mission of commanding the supply of the army was one of the few state tasks entrusted to the heir. The fate of Tsarevich Alexei Petrovich is certainly one of the most tragic in the history of the Russian succession to the throne. Condemned by Peter I for treason and escape in 1718, he dies under unclear circumstances during his imprisonment in the Peter and Paul Fortress.
