'Zhizn Arsenieva' is a prose work by Ivan Bunin in five parts, written in France. The majority of the work was completed in 1929. The first publications of separate chapters began in 1927 in the Paris newspaper 'Russia.' Three years later, the author began the continuation - the concluding part 'Lik'. The separate book 'Zhizn Arsenieva' was published in 1930 (Paris, 'Contemporary Notes' publishing house). The first complete edition was released by the Chekhov Publishing House in New York (1952).
In 1933, Bunin - the first among Russian writers - was awarded the Nobel Prize; according to the writer, this recognition was primarily linked to the 'Zhizn Arsenieva' The fifth book was completed in 1933 and printed in two issues of the journal 'Contemporary Notes' (No. 52, 53).
