Folio. Lith. title, 16 lithographs after Roussel, all with contemporary hand-colour and highlighted in gum arabic, captionned in Russian and French, some with printed numbers, some with handwritten ones; some occasionnal foxing and browing. Later brown cloth retaining an earlier green sheep spine label lettered in gilt; a bit worn. Lovely Russian scenes with contemporary hand-colour. Very rare: we could not trace any other exemple. The nicely hand-coloured scenes mostly depict moments Russian life, which had not been often shown at the time and are well representative of the mid-19th. century taste, such as The Happy Family, The Child Sleeps and Farewell. It also includes a few more traditional themes such as The Moutain Men from the Caucasus and the Bohemians at Rest. Roussel (1804-77) mostly published views of Russia and its people, suggesting he visited this country. He was also a talented painter for porcelain (in Sevres) and stained glass (for the Louvre and Versailles especially). (+) This lot is under temporary importation and is subject to import tax (EU).
