Russia, late XVIII c Wood, gesso, silver leaf, tempera 32 х 28 cm Condition: scuff marks on the paint layer throughout the faces and the clothes of saints, redecoration tinting above the renovated ground in the fields. Saint Metropolitan Alexis (born about 1292-1298 -died in 1378) was an outstanding religious and statesman of Ancient Russia. The icon reproduces the iconography of Saint Alexey from the middle part of the famous icon by Dionysius (late XV) from the Uspensky cathedral of the Moscow Kremlin.
