Signed ‘Clement Serveau’ (lower left) Oil on board 42 x 35.5 cm Executed in the beginning of XX c Born in Paris, Clement Serveau's early work was realistic with elements of cubist forms, as a student at l'Ecole des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. He began exhibiting in 1905 at the Salon des Indépendants, and later at the Salon des Artistes Français where he won a bronze medal in 1921, silver medal in 1926, and a gold medal in 1929. Clement-Serveau continued to exhibit his paintings, and was also awarded the Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur. His paintings are in collections in many countries and in museums in Le Havre, Lille, and the Musée National d'Art Moderne in Paris.
