Vasyl Khmeliuk (1903–1986) was a Ukrainian painter, graphic artist and poet associated with the School of Paris. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow and the Ukrainian Studio of Plastic Arts in Prague before settling in Paris in 1928. His first solo exhibition was held in 1931. Khmeliuk exhibited widely in France, Britain, Italy and Switzerland, and attracted the attention of prominent collectors and dealers, including Ambroise Vollard. From 1943 he was associated with the renowned Durand-Ruel Gallery. Known for his vibrant colours and expressive post-impressionist style, Khmeliuk’s works are held in museum and private collections in Paris, London, Stockholm, Lviv and Oxford.
