The three atlas volumes and the text volume uniformly bound in contemporary half leather bindings, spines with raised bands and gilt decoration, red leather corners, marbled paper boards, composite endpapers ('peacock' pattern). Very good condition. Minor wear and occasional scuffing, pencil annotations on the free endpapers. Dmitry Aleksandrovich Rovinsky (1824–1895) was a Russian jurist, art historian, collector and philanthropist. Privy Councillor (1894). One of the principal contributors to the judicial reform of the 1860s. Also known as an art historian and compiler of reference works on Russian portraiture and engraving of the 18th–19th centuries. Honorary member of the Academy of Sciences and the Academy of Arts. A complete set of a very rare edition reproducing all known engravings by Rembrandt and their variants.
