Copy No. 478, one of 1,200 copies on vellum, of which 1,000 are numbered from 21 to 1,020. Dedication signed 'Paul Eluard' on the half-title page: 'To my old friend Georges Sadoul / Paul Eluard'. 24.5 x 18.5 cm In 1935, Man Ray produced a series of photographs of Nusch, Paul Éluard’s second wife. It was on these images that Éluard wrote the love poems for *Facile*, a collection published and typeset by the poet and typographer Guy Levis Mano. A collaboration between the surrealist photographer and the poet, in which text and image interact in perfect harmony, creating a seamless union of the visual and literary arts. An icon of Surrealism, she explored the performing arts, acrobatics and hypnosis before becoming one of the most renowned muses of Surrealist Paris, celebrated in the works of Man Ray, Picasso, Miró, Valentine Hugo, Dora Maar and others; she inspired major works.
