signed ‘Ch Leickert’ (lower left) oil on panel 26 x 36 cm The Belgian-born landscape painter Charles Leickert was born in Brussels and trained in The Hague under Barthélemy Johannes van Hove and later Andreas Schelfhout. He specialised in Dutch townscapes and winter scenes with skaters on frozen canals. Influenced by the tradition of the seventeenth-century Dutch masters, his paintings are noted for their careful topographical detail and atmospheric light. His works are held in several public collections, including the Rijksmuseum.
