signed ‘Lindstrom’ (lower right); signed, dated, inscribed (on the reverse) oil on canvas 47 x 39 cm painted in 1980 The Swedish artist Lindström was influenced by the ethnic traditions of the Nordic world and Sámi culture, often basing his work on them. His work gained international recognition for its powerful depiction of human themes in vivid colours. ‘... I work with extremely pure and intense colours. When I juxtapose them, it often gives the impression of ‘having no soul’, isn’t that so? something too decorative. Thus red against green, against blue may create harmonies which must not become too beautiful or too pleasant. No, something more must be added to the work, it must have a soul, yes, a soul you can feel, in order to be moved.’ (B. Lindström)
