Karpo Demjanovych Trokhymenko was a Ukrainian painter known for his realist and socialist realist works. He studied art at the Kyiv Art School, the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture, and the Imperial Academy of Arts in Saint Petersburg, where he was a student of Nikolay Samokish. In 1915, as part of Samokish’s students and under his guidance, he traveled to the First World War fronts, first the Western Front, then the Black Sea and Caucasus fronts, to create studies and sketches. He later worked as an artist and professor at the Kyiv Art Institute, teaching historical and battle painting. His oeuvre includes historical scenes, genre works, and landscapes, and he was honored as a People’s Artist of the USSR.
