The Gothic Service was commissioned by Nicholas I for the Winter Palace and executed in 1832 after designs by I.A. Ivanov, presented to the Emperor in 1833. Conceived in a distinctive Neo-Gothic style inspired by stained glass motifs, the service was produced for 150 place settings and subsequently expanded throughout the 19th century, with additional pieces supplied by the Imperial Porcelain Factory and the Kornilov Brothers factory, eventually reaching 200 place settings by the end of the century.
