Engraved with a monogram ‘MR’ under a crown, of Mary Queen of Hanover Princess of Saxe-Altenburg (1818-1907) Hallmarks: mark Kemnis, 12, scratched inventory number ‘272’, H. 7.5 cm, L. 13.5 cm (with handle) gross weight: 85 gr. Mary, Queen of Hanover, Princess of Saxe-Altenburg (1818–1907), was the eldest daughter of Joseph, Duke of Saxe-Altenburg, and was christened Alexandrine Mary Wilhelmine Catharine Charlotte Therese Henriette Louise Pauline Elisabeth Frederica Georgina. She married George V, King of Hanover, on 18 November 1843. Their eldest son, Ernest Augustus (1845–1923), succeeded his blind father as Head of the Royal House of Hanover. Queen Mary died at Gmunden, Austria, where she was also buried; her husband had previously been interred at St George’s Chapel, Windsor, in 1878.
