signed in Cyrillic and dated ‘Glusenka 73’ (lower right) watercolour on paper 30 x 42 cm Nikolai Gluschenko (1901–1977) was a Ukrainian painter. He graduated from the Berlin Higher School of Fine Arts in Charlottenburg (1924) and in 1925 moved to Paris, where he opened an art studio on Rue des Volontaires. Living in France and Spain until 1936, he exhibited at the Salon d’Automne and Salon des Indépendants, and held solo exhibitions across Europe, including Paris, Milan, Bucharest, Prague, Stockholm, and Rome (a total of 32 during his lifetime). Appointed professor of the Art Institute in 1939, he was named People’s Artist of Ukraine (1944) and received the Shevchenko State Prize.
