Executed at Gemini G.E.L. in Los Angeles, the portraits were drawn from life as Hockney’s friends posed before him, often within carefully constructed, domestic-like settings. Offering a deeply autobiographical glimpse into the artist’s Los Angeles circle of the 1970s, the series includes depictions of Henry Geldzahler , Mo McDermott, Brooke Hopper, Billy Wilder.
