In 1976, David Hockney created his remarkable Friends series, capturing the essence and personality of his sitters with characteristic clarity and warmth. Executed at Gemini G.E.L. in Los Angeles, the portraits were drawn from life as Hockney’s friends posed before him, often within carefully constructed, domestic-like settings. Offering a deeply autobiographical glimpse into the artist’s Los Angeles circle of the 1970s, the series includes depictions of Henry Geldzahler , Mo McDermott, Brooke Hopper, Billy Wilder.
