The first part provides an overview of the history of previous coronations of monarchs from the Romanov dynasty. The second part describes in detail the coronation of Nicholas Alexandrovich and Alexandra Feodorovna. It includes official documents related to the coronation, as well as historical essays on the coronation ceremonies in Russia and their attributes, written by renowned historians E.E. Golubinsky, M.I. Pylayev, and I.N. Bozharyanov. The chronicle of the celebrations on the occasion of the coronation of the imperial couple describes a wide variety of events, including the infamous popular “festivities” on Khodynka Field. A rich array of illustrations shows the participants in the coronation events, imperial relics, views of Moscow, balls, festive illuminations, the imperial procession, and much more.
