She would be very grateful for anything he would ‘do for him’. Marie-Antoinette Adèle Duchâtel (née Papin). Wife of Charles Jacques Nicolas Duchâtel, a senior civil servant thirty years her senior, lady-in-waiting to Josephine, she became Napoleon’s mistress in 1804.
