I am writing to you amid the noise and joy caused by the capture of Moscow. I have just delivered your letter and I am very pleased to find in your eagerness to send me the precious details further proof of your affection. I assure you that I value it infinitely. Now we have only one wish left, and that is the return of the Emperor [Napoleon] and the King [Murat], and I hope that we will soon be satisfied (...).
