Bound in burgundy morocco, the upper cover gold embossed within a cartouche 'Maréchal Oudinot Duc de Reggio', framed by an embossed foliate scrolls and gilt friezes. The interior similarly lined in burgundy morocco, the gussets lined in brown fabric, with pocket, the pocket inside the flap lined with green board. The writing section contains compartments, with an inkwell and a powder flask, both with silver-plated metal lids.

Nicolas-Charles Oudinot (1767-1847) was appointed Duke of Reggio by Emperor Napoleon I by letters patent dated April 14, 1810.
Nicolas-Charles Oudinot was a French military officer. He joined the army at a very young age and distinguished himself during the French Revolutionary Wars.
Under the First Empire, Oudinot became one of Napoleon I's most loyal and capable generals. He was made Marshal of the Empire in 1809 After his brilliant performance at the Battle of Wagram. He also took part in many other Napoleonic campaigns, notably in Spain, Russia (1812), Germany, and France.
