[4] ff., frontispiece, III, 265 pp., [1] f., in-4. One heliogravure plate on the frontispiece, one facsimile and six large folding maps, some in colour. Contemporary binding, red half-shagreen with corners, two gilt fillets, spine ribbed and decorated with crowned eagles, gilt head, cover and spine preserved. A few scattered pale foxing spots. Small loss to the upper cap. One of 25 special copies, not for sale, on laid paper from the Blanchet-Kléber paper mills (no. 6). It bears an autograph inscription signed by the author to Prince Victor Napoleon, dated 10 February 1912. An accompanying letter from the author to the prince is included: ‘I am donating this to those interested in the Napoleonic epic.’ First edition of this memoir on a general of the Revolution and the Empire, by his descendant, who gathered numerous unpublished archives.
