(lower right) 36 x 26 cm (à vue) (each) Alexander Yakovlev was the official painter for the scientific expeditions to Centre's Africa launched by André Citroën. In 1924-25, he took part in the Croisière Noire expedition that crossed the Sahara, Niger, Chad and the Congo before arriving in Madagascar. The expedition enabled to build up a major African natural science collection, bring back more than 6, 000 photographs and make a film.
