1) Autograph letter signed from Lieutenant Colonel Lyautey, Commander of the 4th Military Territory to Mr. Captain Commander of the 2nd Company of the 13th Marines at Ampanotokana. Ankazobe, 29 October 1898 2 p. in4, paper headed ‘Corps d'occupation de Madaascar / 4e Territoire Militaire’. In French. 31 x 20 cm Good condition but split at centre fold and small tape strips in margins. Rare and long letter following a claim due to a formal irregularity in a supply report. He gives an explanation of the error and concludes ‘... In any case, I alone made the mistake, and I alone am responsible for the corrected report, which I checked and signed’. 2) Invitation card for the inauguration of a commemorative plaque on the home of Maréchal Lyautey. Municipality of Paris 1937. Card format 13.5 x 17.5 cm "The Municipality of Paris would like to ask you to do it the honour of attending the inauguration of a commemorative plaque on the building at 5 rue Bonaparte, the home of Maréchal Lyautey from 1911 to 1934, on Saturday 13 February 1937 at 11am". Hubert Lyautey General, Marshal of France, member of the Académie française, whose posterity remains linked to his action in Morocco. A cavalry officer during the colonial wars, he served under Joseph Gallieni in Tonkin (1894-1897) and Madagascar (1897-1902).
