In the early 1900s, Voinov studied at the Drawing School of the Imperial Society for the Encouragement of the Arts and took painting lessons from V. I. Denisov in the 1910s. Since 1906, he also worked as a theatrical decorator. He was a member of several art associations, including Sixteen, Mir Iskusstva, etc.
