signed 'N Yanakiev' (lower right) oil on board 70 x 50 cm Nikolay Yanakiev was born in Dupnitsa, Bulgaria, and graduated from the Fine Arts High School in Sofia in 1973. He later graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in 1981. Yanakiev's works are held in museums and galleries worldwide, including the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, the Mimara Museum in Zagreb, the National Gallery of Fine Arts in La Valleta, Malta, the UNESCO Collection in Austria, the Ludwig Collection in Cologne, and the National Gallery of Fine Arts in Sofia. His awards include the Grand Prix at the South Spring Exhibition in Haskovo, Bulgaria, and the Special Award for Painting at the 13th International Biennale for Humor and Satire in Gabrovo, Bulgaria.
