N.p. [1883], 5 folio pages in ink cut and pasted, with erasures and corrections. This story relates the story of Coco, an old horse that Isidore Duval, a fifteen-year-old boy, is charged with taking care of, despite himself. The people of the farm take advantage of this to tease and enrage Isidore, who then turns his anger on the horse and starves the poor animal to death. Like L’Ane, like Pierrot, this tale is one of the works in which Maupassant evokes the animals left to the cruelties of man.
