In Italian. 37 x 24 cm Decree ordering the promotion of two officers, Giovanni di Raimondo and Giovanni Adamo, on the advice of the leader of the government, prime minister secretary of state and minister secretary of state for war. Victor Emmanuel III succeeded his father, Umberto I, after the latter’s assassination in 1900. Benito Mussolini, a member of the Italian Parliament, led a fascist march on Rome in 1922. When the Cabinet resigned, Victor Emmanuel asked Mussolini to form a ministry. Mussolini himself appointed a number of ministries. He changed the electoral law to ensure Fascist control of the government and in 1925 he established a dictatorship. Victor Emmanuel III’s role was that of a figurehead sovereign.
