The collection was released in March 1965 without the author's knowledge and consent, as he was serving his exile in a remote village in the Arkhangelsk region under the sentence for "parasitism." At the beginning of the book, there is an article by Georgy Stukov, a pseudonym used by the compiler of the collection, Gleb Struve, a professor of Russian literature at the University of California, Berkeley, who prepared the book for publication. The book is based on 'samizdat' copies of the poet's works, printed on a typewriter and circulated for several years. The first book by the poet.
