Mayakovsky worked on the play in a great hurry, so he didn't have time to give it a title, and his manuscript went to the censor with the heading: "Vladimir Mayakovsky. Tragedy." It was staged by Mayakovsky himself in December 1913 at the "Luna-Park" theater in St. Petersburg (with sets by P. Filonov and I. Shkolnik). All roles were performed by students and amateurs, with Mayakovsky in the leading role. The performance, which took place twice (on December 2nd and 4th), received a series of sharply negative reviews from the press. In his autobiography, Mayakovsky says, "They hissed it (the tragedy) to shreds." Second book by the poet. Vladimir Vladimirovich Mayakovsky (1893-1930) was a Russian and Soviet poet, playwright, screenwriter, film director, actor, and artist. He is one of the most significant Russian poets of the 20th century, a classic of Soviet literature. He was the editor of the journals "LEF" and "Novy LEF."
