Text in French and English. 13 engraved sheets (aquatint, etching). The original publisher's cover in good condition. It is bound in a composite period binding with a leather spine, corners, and a gold-stamped label on the upper cover. The covers are adorned with colored paper. The book is in very good condition with minor rubbing and soiling to the binding. Three engravings depict representatives of the Russian army in Paris: a drummer of the Grenadier regiment, a private of the Pavlovsky Grenadier regiment, and Cossacks. Carle Vernet (Antoine-Charles-Horace, 1758-1835) was a French painter, draftsman, and lithographer. He was known for his genre scenes, animal paintings, caricatures, and battle scenes, as well as his contributions to the historiography of the Napoleonic army. He was a member of a prominent artistic family.
