St. Petersburg: Meditsinskaya tipografiya, 1810. [10], 148, [2] p.; 20x12 cm. Engraved title page. Composite binding from the 19th century: leather corners and spine, marbled paper. Monogram "A.V." and symbolic drawing on the title page in gall nut ink. Traces of erased writing. On page [5], there is a dedication by the author, Dmitry Ivanovich Khvostov, to Emperor Alexander I. This is a lifetime edition of Dmitry Ivanovich Khvostov, who gained fame as a poet "capable of composing verses on the most diverse occasions." He married Agrafena Gorchakova, the niece of A. Suvorov, and immediately became a sub-colonel. Suvorov grew fond of the poet and made significant efforts to advance the career of his new relative. In 1802, Khvostov was granted the title of count, bestowed upon him in 1799 by the King of Sardinia (with the assistance of Suvorov during the Italian campaign). Khvostov was not liked by everyone; he was described as "repulsive in appearance," clumsy, and even "extremely odorous." This edition is quite rare in the modern antiquarian market.
