Alexander Yakovlev was the official painter for the scientific
expeditions to Centre's Africa launched by André Citroën. In
1924-25, he took part in the Croisière Noire expedition that
crossed the Sahara, Niger, Chad and the Congo before arriving in Madagascar. The expedition enabled to build up a major African natural science collection, bring back more than 6,000 photographs and make a film.
