Galkin and Co.’ in 1892; silver marks ‘woman’s head facing right’ and ‘84’ 22 x 18 cm Condition: without restoration, patina on the frame, painting under a layer of dark varnish. The Kazanskaya Mother of God is the most venerated variant of the Hodegetria (Directress) icon style in Russia. The icon became famous as a shrine of military and national significance and in everyday life the icon has revealed many miracles of healing and salvation.
