Signed in Cyrillic ‘P. Korovin’ Oil on canvas 47 x 68 cm Stamp on the reverse of the doctor of A. Chekhov, who was present at his death and ceremonially poured "death champagne" on him. The painting was given to him by Chekhov as a sign of gratitude. Provenance: • Anton Pavlovich Chekhov (1860, Taganrog —1904, Badenweiler, Germany), great Russian writer (possibly his gift to Dr. Joseph Schwcerer, Grand Ducat's spa doctor, who was the last doctor to Anton Chekhov in Badenweiler, Germany. • Collection of Dr Schwoerer (stamps on the reverse and on the stretcher). • Collection of Elizaveta Zhivago, daughter of the prominent Moscow landlord Vasily Zhivago, married to Dr Schwoerer. • Thence by descent. • Private collection, Germany. • Auktionshaus Kaupp GmbH, Germany, 04 Dec 2010, Lot 1869.(sold for Euro 26,000. • Private collection, USA.
