signed and dated ‘G. Banchieri 64’ (lower right) oil on canvas 65 x 80 cm Born in Milan in 1927, he attended the Academy of Brera where his teacher, the painter Aldo Carpi. He joined together with Gianfranco Ferroni, Mino Ceretti, Giuseppe Guerreschi, Bepi Romagnoli and Tino Vaglieri existential Realism, bringing the center of the depiction of the subject as an element of existence investigation, elevating it to a moment of reflection on the human drama: the foundation of the poetry group was searching for an alternative to informal and existentialism that was born after the horrors of World War II. Many were his participation in the Venice Biennale and the Quadrennial of Rome from 1958 till 1972.
