Pouqueville François-Charles (1770-1838) was a French diplomat, historian, writer and researcher. He was a hostage of the Turkish Sultan, then appointed Consul General of Napoleon I Bonaparte at the court of Ali Pasha Janinsky (1741-1822). In 1798-1820 he traveled a lot thorughout Greece occupied by the Ottoman Empire. His diplomatic achievements and letters contributed a lot to the liberation of Greece and the revival of the Greek nation.
