A RUSSIAN ICON «THE VLADIMIR MOTHER OF GOD» IN A SILVER-GILT OKLAD.

Veliky Novgorod, the end of the XVIII century. Wood, gesso ground, gold leaf, tempera. Oklad: silver, incused, engraved, gilding. Hallmarks: master - illegible; assay master «N. S» over the date 1796 - Nikita Safronov, 1789-1834; coat of arms of the city of Veliky Novgorod. Size: 32,5 X 28 cm. Condition: tinting on the Infant’s hair, scuffi ng of the paint layer on the face of the Mother of God, fragmentary stains of darkened drying oil. Traces of nails holes from the fastenings of the former basma oklad. The presented icon is especially valuable for its silver oklad decorated with ornamental motifs in the classicist style
