Autograph letter to the Dutch composer and organist Edouard Silas, who taught in London and that
Rubinstein had missed on the occasion of a stay there.
Peterhof, 6th / 18th VI. 1876. 1 p. in-8°.
“... God himself was against answering letters because he made man’s life so short... You wrote to me three times in London,
I really didn’t have time to read these letters to answer - if I had met you where, you could have convinced yourself that I, on
my part, I am always happy to know a person like you and to be in a collegial relationship with – and without paying attention
to whether you have listed something of mine or not ...”.
