Vsevolod Mikhailovich Garshin (1855-1888) - one of the most outstanding writers of the literary
generation of the 70s of the XIX century. L.N. Tolstoy, M.E. Saltykov-Shchedrin, I. S.Turgenev
and others highly appreciated his work. In the world literature Garshin was a pioneer inventing a
special artistic form - a short story (novella), which later was greatly developed in A.P. Chekhov’s
works.
