The letter refers to the scientist's article "From the history of development of animal communities", that he was translating into German at the time. He also offers to publish it in Russian.
Ilya Mechnikov (1845-1916) was a Russian and French biologist (microbiologist, cytologist, embryologist, immunologist, physiologist and pathologist). Winner of the Nobel prize in physiology and medicine. One of the founders of evolutionary embryology, the discoverer of phagocytosis and intracellular digestion, creator of the comparative pathology of inflammation, the phagocytic theory of immunity, the theory of phagocytella, the founder of scientific gerontology.
