Metal (zinc, casting, silvering). Size: 41x31 cm (frame 53X42, 4 cm). XIX century. Good condition, patina on the metal. The icon depicts the Mother of God with a Baby on her left hand. Christ holds the thumb of the right hand of the Virgin Mary with his both hands and, turning around, looks at the simbols of the passions - the cross, the spear, the cane in the hands of the angels. Icons of the Holy Virgin became widespread in the Italian-Greek world in the second half of the XV–XVI centuries. In Russia, worshipping of the ‘Holy Virgin’ image started in the XVII century. The icon features by a high ‘sculptural’ relief and highly likely originates from Europe.
